Folder 5: Extra Help with Drug Plan Costs

Approximately 1 in 4 people with Medicare qualify for extra help covering almost all of the costs of their drugs. Most people who are eligible for this extra help will pay no premiums, no deductibles, and about $5 for each prescription.

When you are helping people with Medicare prescription drug coverage, ask them if their income and resources meet the guidelines shown in this folder on “What You Need To Complete The Application For Help With Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs.” There is a worksheet on the back for documenting the necessary information. This folder also has a sample of the application form. People can also apply on line at www.socialsecurity.gov or can get an application by calling the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213. Visit http://www.ssa.gov/prescriptionhelp for details.

This folder also contains charts showing the drug plan costs when people qualify for the extra help.
