Folder 6: Resources to Help You

There are many resources to help you help people with Medicare decide about Medicare prescription drug coverage. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provides resources at www.cms.hhs.gov for professionals, government agencies, and others. In addition, this folder references an extensive selection of resources in electronic format (http://training.shiptalk.org/ResourceGuide), including all of the materials in this packet as well as lists and web links to the Eldercare Locator (www.eldercare), numerous CMS publications, and other helpful information. Many of these resources are also available in Spanish. If you have an Internet connection, you can click on a link to go directly to the most up-to-date version of that information.

CMS also has resources for people with Medicare, their family and friends, and the general public, at www.medicare.gov website and the 1-800-MEDICARE helpline.

  • The www.medicare.gov website has up-to-date information about Medicare prescription drug coverage and the Medicare program, including tools for finding health care providers.
  • The 1-800-MEDICARE helpline (1-800-633-4227) uses a speech-activated system to make it easy for callers with Medicare questions to get the information they need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in English or Spanish. Customer service representatives can provide personalized assistance, including helping callers with the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder and Medicare Options Compare. TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048.
The agency also publishes a variety of informational materials for people with Medicare, partners, and the general public. You can order these free publications from www.medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.

Visit http://www.cms.hhs.gov/Partnerships/10_ships.asp if you need help finding the answer to a Medicare question. This folder contains the telephone numbers for the State Health Insurance Assistance Programs in each state and territory. For partners who are interested in working closely with CMS to help people understand and enroll in prescription drug coverage, there are telephone numbers for the agency’s regional offices.
